Old Bags Have Style
In the spirit of reuse and recycle, visitors to this year’s Cornwall Christmas Fair are being asked to bring along a favourite vintage Cornwall Christmas Fair shopping bag. All those sporting an old bag at the event will be entered into a prize draw to win a day’s pass for two to Swim Club at Watergate Bay Hotel with a two-course lunch for two in The Living Space.
The limited-edition jute shopping bags sponsored by Lillicrap Chilcott and in recent years designed by fair stalwart Cream Cornwall are a popular annual feature. Over the years the bags have ranged from clever word play over both sides of the back (remember Drama Queen?) to iconic illustrations of mackerel, octopus, pheasant and even a sandcastle.
“This year our involvement with the Cornwall Christmas Fair is less about bags and more around swing, as we sponsor Best of Bublé singer Tom Cary to entertain guests during Cornish Gin O’Clock on the Preview & Shopping Evening,” explains Ian Lillicrap. “The Cornwall Christmas Fair is a very important event for us, enabling us to directly support Cornwall’s cancer patients. We love our bags and fully support the team’s decision to encourage visitors to bring their vintage bags from previous years. A new bag will return for 2020 and in the meantime we are delighted that Tom has agreed to ensure the cocktail hour goes with a swing!”
